Práce se zabývá irskými referendy o Lisabonské smlouvě v kontextu evropských referend. Jedná se o jednopřípadovou studii s prvky diachronní komparace. Existují dva druhy přístupu ke zkoumanému tématu. Jedním z nich je issue voting, což jsou uvědomělé kalkulace voliče, založené na jeho postoji k Evropské unii. Druhý vidí referendum jako prostředek k vyjádření spokojenosti či nespokojenosti se současnou vládou, jedná se o koncept druhořadých voleb. Práce si klade za cíl ověřit následující tvrzení: V obou irských referendech o Lisabonské smlouvě převládly znaky issue voting nad charakteristikami druhořadých voleb. Z analýzy kampaní, volebního chování a výsledků referend vyplývá, že se daný výrok potvrdil.The paper deals with the Irish referenda on the Treaty of Lisbon in context of the EU referenda. It is a single country case study with elements of diachronic comparison. There are two types of approaches to analyse this subject. The first one is an issue voting approach. It is based on voter?s conscious calculations related to his/her attitude towards the European Union. The other one sees the referendum as a means of expressing satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the incumbent government, it is a concept of second order elections. The aim of this work is to verify the following claim: In both Irish referenda on the Treaty of Lisbon voting issue features prevailed over second order elections characteristics. The analysis of campaigns, voting behaviour and results of the referenda shows that the statement is confirmed.
